Stencils

Stencil technique:

  • start with any photo
  • make black and white
  • Image -> adjustments -> levels and bring outer pointers into centre
  • select black parts with magic wand
  • create new layer and hide initial image layer
  • use large airbrush and spray selected area, leaving some parts lighter - by changing opacity 
  • inverse and spray a few light bits around edges of images to give spray paint effect
  • add drips and sprays by downloading or making brushes

Brushes - Kate in Stars!


Brushes



  • You can make a brush out of any image in Photoshop – Internet, scan etc
  • Start with image
  • Extract part that you want with elliptical marquee
  • Copy
  • File new (will be size of copied image)
  • Paste
  • Unview background
  • Remove any white parts
  • Adjust levels to make image brighter or more contrasted if desired
  • Colour doesn’t matter, as it is a brush – make it any colour you like when using it
  • Select all – edit – define brush preset
  • New document
  • Window- brush
  • Select brush tool – find your brush
  • Can now change colour on colour picker
  • In brush window can squash, turn, flip, change size ([smaller ]bigger)
  • To write with a brush –
  • Pick font, write what you want
  • Create new layer
  • Use brush to go over text – can change sizes etc
  • Unview text layer
  • marge visible layers (not background)
  • to save brush to computer – go to brush pallet – middle button at bottom – select what you want to save – save set and save to wherever you want
